Clock time: a foreign measure to brain dynamics (link)

In this paper, we argue clock time (milliseconds, seconds) is generally inappropriate for neuroscience. The brain uses its own dynamics to coordinate cognitive processes, rather than a time format that was made by and for humans. So, if we study evolving data patterns to figure out how the brain achieves cognition, it makes most sense to do so with recourse to the brain's dynamics. We offer a MATLAB toolbox that dynamically restructures electrophysiology data in line with oscillations predicted to coordinate cognition, setting the time axis to cycles of these oscillations.
